Walk to D'Feet ALS

Bright and early this morning we headed out to Scottsdale to help out at the Walk to D'Feet ALS. It was a little chilly this morning, as you can tell by the all the dew on the ground. Once that sun was up though it started to warm up pretty quickly.

We had the pleasure of working registration this morning, which allowed us the opportunity to meet a number of really nice people.

There was a pretty good turnout this year, sadly this is one of those walks that doesn't receive a great deal of attention. It would have been nice to see one of the local news channels there helping to raise awareness for ALS (aka Lou Gehrigg's Disease).

We took a moment to visit with the Phoenix Suns Gorilla after we were done with registration.

Relay for Life Buckeye

We started out the walk with checking out the Pink Heals Fire Truck. Always looking for the silly photo...Tiffany is giving directions and Brittany is driving!!

After having a little fun at the fire truck, it's time to start walking!

Always willing to stop for a picture, although you never know if it will be a serious or silly pose :)

Never willing to pass up a chance to win food Brittany and Tiffany participated in a cake walk....

Tiffany won a cake!!

Stretching a little before the cake walk rematch...

Tiffany won muffins!!

Brittany decided to try her hand at the lollipop tree, since things didn't go to well for her at the cake walk.

She won a lollipop and a bag of m&ms...yummy!

Linda joined us at the walk! Of course we visited with the Pink Heals Fire Truck when she arrived.

Edvis provided live entertainment for the walkers.

"They're playing our song!" Trying to remember the dance from the International Pageant.

Go Pink! Assembly at WCMS

This morning Linda and I were guest speakers at the Go Pink Assembly at Wigwam Creek Middle School. We had the opportunity to share our cancer experiences with the students attending the assembly and which is the reason that we participate in the Queen of Hope Pageant. We also got to meet a number of cancer survivors :)

After the assembly I had to return to my school, but Linda remained at Wigwam Creek. She spent the remainder of the day sharing information about childhood cancer awareness and Issac's Foundation with small groups of students.

Walk for PKD

This morning we volunteered at the Walk for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) in Scottsdale. The morning started off with filling over a hundred balloons to decorate the expo and registration area.

Our fingers were as blue as our shirts after tying all the balloons.

We wandered around the expo while waiting for the opening ceremony.

A view of the registration area

Prior to the start of the 5K there is a Penny Kids Dash, all the kids who participate receive a piggy bank.

Pre-walk warm up

And they're off...

Anybody care for some water? This was our second job of the morning, passing out water to all the walkers.

Don't forget to stay cool when the temps are heating up in Arizona.

Helping WCMS prepare for their Go Pink Assembly

This afternoon I got in touch with my arts and crafts side when I helped students from WCMS prepare for their Go Pink Assembly which will take place later this week. I got to make flower pens and door hangers which will be placed in goodie bags that will be handed out to survivors attending the assembly.

I also helped to decorate a few of those bags. I look forward to attending the assembly which will celebrate cancer survivors, not to mention I'll get to spend some time with my sister queen, Linda, who will be here to share information about Issac's Foundation.

Taste of Goodyear / G.A.I.N

This morning Brittany attended the G.A.I.N event at the Goodyear Ballpark.

G.A.I.N. stands for Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods. The G.A.I.N. event is held statewide in most Arizona cities and towns during the month of October. This event provides a great opportunity for residents to get to know one another and build relationships with neighbors, City officials, City staff and community leaders, while promoting public safety awareness and improving communications. (http://www.ci.goodyear.az.us/index.aspx?nid=2417)

Had to check out the police bomb squad robot.

The Taste of Goodyear was being held in conjunction with G.A.I.N; numerous restaurants from around the city of Goodyear were giving out samples of their food and coupons. It was a very yummy experience sampling food from places like Red Robin, Rubio's, and Macayo's.

In between food tastings, Brittany shared information about the Queen of Hope pageant with other people in attendance; including the fine folks from the Cancer Treatment Center of America. The state of Arizona is very lucky to have one of these centers located in Goodyear!

Race for the Cure - Downtown Phoenix

We headed to downtown Phoenix bright and early (6:00am) on 10-10-10 to participate in the Race for the Cure. Thankfully, we beat the crowd in regards to finding a parking space. This event grows a little bigger every year; which is great since it means more people supporting breast cancer awareness/research. Hopefully, all this support will lead to a cure in the very near future!!

Can you believe this is only a portion of the 31,000 people who attended this year?

ASU was very well represented today; we took a moment for a photo with Sparky. Along the walk route students from ASU were handing out water, which was greatly appreciated since AZ is was still experiencing record high temps. It had to be in the high 80s/low 90s by the time we reached the finish line.

There is never a dull moment waiting for a walk to start when Tiffany and Brittany are together; they find numerous ways to amuse themselves :)

Ready to walk with stylists from one of our sponsors, Salon Zen. Thank you for joining us this morning!

Making a little music prior to the walk.

After a couple of hours waiting and entertaing those around us, it is finally time to cross the starting line...let the 5K begin!!

Still excited, the heat hasn't really hit yet...

The finish line is finally in sight!!

Let's cross the finish line and find some cold water! Can't wait to do it again next year, although I will hope for cooler weather.
